Lot Essay

The present cast is number 8 out of an edition of approximately 20 lifetime casts of The Sergeant. A departure from his action bronzes of the period, Remington created two small busts within four years of each other: The Sergeant in 1904 and a portrait of a defiant Indian titled Savage in 1908.
