Singer was born in New York in 1987. The daughter of two artists, she grew up surrounded by art and frequented museums from a young age. In 2008, Singer completed her training at the Stadelschule, Frankfurt am Main. She then enrolled at the esteemed Cooper Union and majored in sculpture. After her graduation in 2010, Singer began experimenting with SketchUp. In 2013, she obtained her MFA from the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture.
A contemporary painter with a sculptor’s eye, Singer employs 3D modelling software to conceive her complex compositions and motifs drawn from the formal aesthetics of Constructivism, Futurism and Vorticism. She then transfers these images onto canvas using an airbrush, creating images that are at once digital and analogue. Her work has sometimes been labelled as ‘post-internet art’, a stigma which belies her deep knowledge of art history and painting techniques.
In 2013, Singer held her breakout solo exhibition The Artists at Kraupa-Tuskany Zeidler Gallery, Berlin, where she satirised artist stereotypes through computer-assisted grisaille paintings.
Since 2016, Singer has worked with a commercial airbrush printer, the Michelangelo Art/Robo, allowing her compositions to become even more complex.
In December 2021, Untitled (Tuesday) (2017) — depicting a geometric figure adorned with jewellery — sold for $4,498,549 at Christie’s.
